FIRESTARTER HOTSHEET- Orenthal James Simpson

In the days following the announcement of the death of OJ Simpson, I have thought the best thing was to be quiet.

Not oblivious, but quiet.

Had my father lived, he’d be 76 this October. I am the daughter of an lineman. I am the daughter of a man whom, too, was complicated.

Yet, the same man who my father revered, and a generation of young men — some of whom are fathers of daughters— remember and wanted to be a Running Back because of was arrested and acquitted of the murder of his wife, Nicole— and her friend, Ronald Goldman.

This is the same man whom was essential to culture— and infamous. The same man which went to prison because of armed robbery! Why? He went to go get his Heisman trophy and other memorabilia in Las Vegas.

Eulogizing complicated or infamous people is hard— and I cannot hope to do it in one HOTSHEET.

What I will say is everyone has a first day, and a last day. For all his promise, this is what he did with his dash.
